FOGO refers to the dread^{1 of going out, particularly if one is tired from previous socializing; the desire to not attend a popular event that is over-hyped or over-commercialized.}

社交恐惧症指害怕外出，特别假如某人因此前的社交活动而对外出感到厌倦；不想参加被过分炒作或过于商业化的热点活动。

这个词实质是短语fear of going out（害怕外出）首字母缩写组成的新词。类似有关的词还有fear of missing out（害怕错过）的首字母缩略词社交控FOMO，和joy of missing out（错失的乐趣）的缩略词JOMO，即不再害怕错过其他人做的事情或说的话而领会到的愉悦。
